A TRAIN CRASH IN NORTHERN INDIA KILLED 21


A train crash in northern India has killed at least 21 people and wounded many others. The accident on Wednesday was caused when one passenger train crashed into another near the town of Mathura, 150km south of New Delhi, the capital.
  • Many passengers were trapped in a smashed carriage and rescuers had to cut the coach open to get them out.
  • The crash happened at 5.30am (00:00 GMT), according to Vijay Kumar, a senior police official in the nearby town of Agra, home to the Taj Mahal monument.
  • The train Mewar Express was stationary before a red signal when another train, the Goa Express, collided with it from behind, police said.
  • The carriage hit was reserved for women and disabled passengers, but some other people may have been among the victims.
