AUSTRALIA IS TOO DANGERIOUS FOR INDIAN IMMIGRANTS

BRISBANE, Australia - Last Wednesday, an Australian teenager has pleaded guilty to fatally stabbing an Indian student in Melbourne. He faces up to life in prison for the attack that sparked outrage across India.
The 16-year-old pleaded guilty in Victorian Supreme Court on Wednesday to the murder and attempted armed robbery of Nitin Garg. Garg, 21, was killed last year while walking through a park in Melbourne, Australia's second largest city.
  • This week another Indian, Suresh, 29, the second of the three children of Venkatesh and Sudha, residents of Nandini is undergoing treatment at a hospital in Brisbane after he was attacked outside a hotel.
  • According to Mr. Venkatesh, his son, a resident of Melbourne, had gone to Brisbane on work. “What we have been told is that he had gone out for dinner with a colleague. Since he did not like the food, he left his colleague there and stepped out in search of a better dining place. The attack occurred soon afterwards.”
  • He said Suresh had spoken to his mother before leaving Melbourne telling her that he is going to work with a couple of IT firms in Bangalore before migrating to Australia around five years ago. He had come home on a month-long visit a couple of months ago.
  • Suresh elder sister, who resides in Singapore but is currently in India for maternity care, is handling all the issues.
  • Meanwhile, Deputy High Commissioner of Australia in India Lachlan Strahan confirmed that Mr. Suresh was assaulted in the inner Brisbane suburb of Fortitude valley.
  • In an email response to a query from The Hindu, Dr. Strahan said: “The apparent assailant, Robert Michael Bronzin, was immediately arrested by the police and has been charged with assault causing grievous bodily harm. Bronzin appeared before the Brisbane Magistrates Court in a preliminary hearing, where the police opposed bail.”
According to reports, It's estimated more than 200 Indian students in Australia have been hurt in racially motivated gang attacks since 2009. Most of these attacks go unreported out of fear.
