EMERALDS SHINE IN TROUBLED SWAT VALLEY OF PAKISTAN

The Mingora emerald mines in Pakistan's troubled Swat Valley have opened again after years of violence and looting by the now-departed Taliban.
The re-emergence of the mining industry has brought jobs, investment and a certain amount of hope to the area.
Swat is a lush green valley full of natural resources like marble, emerald and many other kind of precious and semi precious stones.
Swati emerald is a famous for its world class quality. Swat has been a capital of old Ghandhara state which was a cradle of Buddhist civilization in this part of world.
After Hunza valley the Swat valley has the 2nd largest ratio of literacy in Pakistan. Due to current political situation one should take proper security measures before setting off tour to this region. It will be worth to include this valley in your tour package when planning travel to Pakistan.
Al Jazeera's Kamal Hyder reports from the Swat Valley.
