Destroyed cars sit in downtown Ankara, the site of a bomb blast on Tuesday.
ANKARA, Istanbul - At least two people were killed and several others injured in an explosion in Ankara, Turkey, on Tuesday, Turkish media reported.
The explosion occurred in front of the Cankaya local administrator's office, which is near Ankara’s downtown Kizilay square, the Anatolia news agency said.
“There has been information that the blast was caused by a bomb,” Deputy Prime Minister Bulent Arinc told Turkish television channels.
  • Television images showed several parked cars ablaze in front of the local state authority's offices, while a plume of thick smoke rose over the area.
  • The explosion blew out windows of shops and offices in the surrounding area, damaged six cars and sparked a fire which was later put out by firefighters at the scene, NTV said, adding that the cause of the explosion was not yet known.
