TROPICAL DEPRESSION RAMON ATTACKED CENTRAL PHILIPPINES


MANILA, Philippines - A total of 10 people were killed yesterday and two went missing when tropical depression Ramon hit central Philippines and moved westward, following days of remaining stationary on the Pacific Ocean, the country's eastern seaboard, since Tuesday, a senior official said.
The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) reported today that two of the storm's fatalities were children -- Marielle Martinez and Lino Ganancial, both seven years old.
The two children drowned while crossing an overflowing river in Barotac viejo in Iloilo on Monday afternoon. Marielle's brothers Mark, 12 and Michael, 15, also drowned.
  • The three other fatalities were Bienvenido CaƱete of Cordova in Cebu, who died from electrocution; Wilfredo Sabroso, 30, of Toledo City, who died after falling from a collapsed footbridge and Daryll Galles, 20, was buried by a landslide while inside a mining pit in Butuan. Two more people are missing in Bohol and Iloilo provinces.
According to report, about 23,755 persons from 10 provinces in central and southern Philippines were affected by the storm.
