26 CONFIRMED DEAD IN MALAYSIA GENTING BUS ACCIDENT


PETALING JAYA, Malaysia - 26 people are confirmed dead after a bus carrying local tourists plunged into a 30m ravine near Genting Highlands around 3pm on Wednesday. 
Seventeen people have been pulled out from the bus, one of whom was already dead, according to Azizan Ismail from the Kuala Lumpur Fire and Rescue Department who is directing rescue operations. 
  • He said 33 people still in the bus are believed to be dead. The accident occurred at KM36 of the Genting-Kuala Lumpur road, some two kilometres from the Chin Swee Caves Temple, as the bus carrying 49 passengers was coming down from Genting Highlands and heading towards Kuala Lumpur.

37 people were killed in the country's worst road tragedy, after a bus carrying 53 plunged into a 30m ravine near Genting Highlands around 3pm Wednesday.
The dead included 24 males and 13 females. Sixteen people were injured in the incident.
According to Fire and Rescue Department deputy director-general Datuk Soiman Jahid, the dead included the driver of the bus.
