A MAGNITUDE 5.7 QUAKES HIT SOUTHERN PHILIPPINES

COTABATO, Philippines -  A quake measuring 5.7 Magnitude on the Richter Scale hit southern Philippines North Cotabato at 4.08am on Monday, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.
The quake’s epicentre, 17 kilometres northwest of Carmen town in North Cotabato, was of tectonic in origin and had a depth of three kilometres, said Phivolcs Executive Director Renato Solidum.
Heavy objects or furniture moved in houses, bells rang in churches, and wall plasters in some buildings cracked in Carmen, where the quake sent Intensity VI, said Phivolcs.
Very old houses and buildings were checked for slight damages in Kabacan and Matalam, both in North Cotabato, where the quake sent Intensities V and IV, said Phivolcs.
The quake sent Intensity II to North Cotabato’s farther areas such as Kidapawan City; Cagayan de Oro City; Davao City; Pres. Roxas, Arakan, Magpet and Makilala; and Intensity I to Butuan City,
Landslides were checked in all affected areas, said Phivolcs.
